Trying out bulgarian pistachios in Sofia !

While walking a bit around the center of Sofia, we stumbled into a shop that looked very promising. With a large choice of roasted nuts of all kinds. The nuts were nicely organized and labeled, the service was good, and the choice incredible. From party peanuts with sour cream, roasted sunflower seeds and almonds, and of course, the reason we are here, beautiful roasted salted pistachios.

After driving many hours from southern Oman we found a small gas station shop that has a more varied choice of pistachios than the gas stations far in between the long  but fascinating roads from Salalah to Muscat. In this shop, we found this can of pistachios produced in Lebanon and called Castania. Today we review these pistachios which we had the chance to snack on in a very different part of the world,  on a train from the european cities of Sofia in Bulgaria on the way to the capital of Serbia, Belgrade !   Presentation These pistachios come in a round can similar to a short pringles can with a clear plastic cap. On the back we can find some information […]

Carrefour pistachios from Salalah, Oman

If you want to see camels, green hills, beautiful trees, and a welcoming city, hit up this Salalah in the southern tip of Oman!   We tried a few different pistachios in Oman already, some really good iranian ones in Muscat, others that were pretty good from one of those mini supermarkets on the road, and today we are trying some from a more established […]

Review: Sunkist In-Shell pistachios in Thailand

This is a quick review of Sunkist IN-SHELL Pistachios purchased in Thailand from a gas station in Huat Yai on the way to the beautiful island of Koh Lipe. These pistachios are apparently roasted and packaged in the Thailand but I suppose they are grown in California by Sunkist Growers Inc. What can we say about these pistachios ? The round can lets out a woody and earthy smell after pulling out the tab.. the size of the pistachios is medium with a number of big ones. The shells, a bit beat up and shiny seem to confirm the claim on the can that they are unbleached. Most pistachios are nicely open with some stray one. The taste is a […]
