Nature's delight pistachios

Nature’s delight pistachios… delightful or just meh?

Hello pistachio fans.. .

With a name like Nature’s delight we were really excited to try these Australian pistachios for you. Today, like always, we take into our own hands to find, pick, crack, taste, smell, and write about various pistachios brands all over the world.

One Autumn evening we decided to stop at a supermarket … I don’t recall the name maybe IGA or similar. It looked promising with arrays of vegetables and fruits.. of course we skipped all that and headed directly to the nuts section.

Let’s talk about the pistachios now.

Packaging

The packaging is nice and simple. At least the front. Straight and to the point. The Nature’s Delight type logo in all caps, the product description “PISTACHIOS SALTED” leaves little to personal regarding the contents. If you weren’t sure what’s in the bag a large rectangular peek window gives you a good view on the pistachios for immediate visual inspection. On the bottom of the peek window, the product tell you why you should have these… Delight in every bite.

The back of the package has a blurb about how at Nature’s delight they guarantee quality and will happily replace inferior products. Hopefully it won’t get to that. There is also some nutritional information, a disclaimer that it contains nuts (always a shock), and another small peek window. The product is packed by Nocelle Foods in South Australia. Overall, we’re very happy with the packaging, clean with an eye pleasing pistachio color, just enough information, and ample peek windows.

Smell

Doing a strong inhale inside the package once opened reveals a slight woody smell. Nothing too crazy or distinctive to add.

Visual Aspect

The shells have a light color and the pistachios are of small to medium size. Some of them are a bit beat up but overall pretty smooth at least on the outside. They are mostly quite open although the color peeking though is not very bright.

Unshelled, it’s another story. The colors are a bit uninspiring, with inconsistent faded and muddles greens, some brown in the body of the nuts, and some areas with holes which is not something you like to see in your pistachios as they can unfortunately hide all sorts of things.

Taste

What about the taste?

Uninspiring but with a reasonable amount of saltiness as to not be overbearing but no wow flavor. The taste is sometimes a bit too pasty and the flavor profile might indicate some over-roasting or lack of freshness.

Conclusion

Overall, these pistachios were anything but delightful. Instead of having delight in every bite, we were careful to visually inspect the nuts for holes or other nasties. A lot of the pistachios were ok but the ratio of bad pistachios during the first snacking session was discouraging and left us not wanting to come back for more. Pissed-ashios amirite?

Overall we give these pistachios 3.4 starts and would probably not have them again.
